Disaster Relief

When disaster strikes, local VFW posts respond fast, and the VFW Foundation funds the relief that helps veterans and military families recover.

Recovery Starts With Neighbors Who Are Already There.

When a natural disaster strikes, the Foundation provides the funding and local VFW posts mobilize, delivering emergency support to veterans, service members, and military families in the communities where they already serve.

Two Ways Help Reaches Families.

Disaster Relief works on two tracks:

01

Emergency Grants

Veterans and military families can receive grants for disaster-related costs, including temporary housing, essential supplies, and home repairs.

02

Post Mobilization

VFW post volunteers organize on the ground, coordinating community response where the need is greatest.

Posts Embedded Before Disaster Strikes.

More than 5,600 VFW posts are rooted in communities, long before any storm. That footprint makes the VFW a hyperlocal responder, able to activate the moment disaster hits in ways a national relief effort cannot replicate. For corporate supporters, it turns CSR investment into visible, community-level impact.

Relief That Starts Inside the Community.

VFW posts respond from inside the communities they serve. After the August 2023 Maui wildfires, Post 3850 turned its halls into a distribution hub, moving truckloads of supplies to displaced families and veterans. The same pattern repeats in disaster after disaster.
